Transects – Salinity measurements 2018
Transects – Salinity measurements 2018
Under the scientific guidance of Dr. Miguel Correia, from the University of Portugal with whom we are in close cooperation, we conducted three (50) meter transects to measure the density of the seahorse population similar to those from 2016, but at a smaller and more targeted scale. One transect took place north of the main study area, following the mining facilities to the next bay, where Posidonia meadows are located.
Two further transects took place in the main study area, as indicated in the following maps. This time the exact georeference of the routes was done with a different process, ie the divers send a buoy to the surface at the beginning of the measuring tape and one at the end of it. Subsequently, the RIB’s onboard GPS receives the corresponding co-ordinate points.
Along with the transect surveys, measurements of the water column on salinity and temperature were also taken. Measurements were made at various locations on the Stratoni coast and the measurement results and locations were recorded.
All sampling results are listed in the survey log.
